Things Change Quickly....Stay On Target
I tell you, after following through
the Acts 2:38 KJV salvational process, there is so much more in this
walk with Jesus. Today Jesus was dealing with me concerning how
quickly Saul turned on David. Satan plays mean head games yo!
#StayPraying Let's start here:
“And David went out whithersoever
Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the
men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and
also in the sight of Saul's servants.” - 1 Samuel 18:5 KJV
David, who did everything right,
nothing underhanded (at least up to this point.... #heh), and was
best friends with Saul's son Jonathan. Saul would shortly change to
wanting David dead though, but he was pleasant about it at first.
Scripture gives us a clue that among
the many things that started this descent into #SaulGoesCrayCray
right here:
“7 And the women answered one another
as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David
his ten thousands.
8 And Saul was very wroth, and the
saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten
thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can
he have more but the kingdom?
9 And Saul eyed David from that day and
forward.” 1 Samuel 18:7-8 KJV
Hold up, what? So much happens in such
a short time frame. But honestly that's how it is even today. Think
about that. Anyway, about these nameless women.... you mean to tell
me they knew NO other song but to make up one like this??
Should have been singing about thanking
GOD that the whole town wasn't slain by Goliath and his band of
violent bullies. But nooooo rather than that, these women use their
obviously influential position to do this David vs Saul comparison
song.... so typical.
Of course the enemy takes this path of
least resistance to attack poor David through an already spiritually
dying almost-completely-dead Saul. And if we look at scripture, David's not even aware of
this crazy change at this point. Well until this dramatic moment
happens as innocent David is playing music to calm Saul. Saul was
probably looking at ease until this happens too:
“And Saul cast the javelin; for he
said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided
out of his presence twice.
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and
was departed from Saul.” -1 Samuel 18:11-12 KJV
Wow, I bet David had to wonder what
that was about! Like dude, he was just you know being his David
playing music self like he had before. And BAM Saul's trying to kill
him? I'd be like:
But there were no witnesses, at least
scripture doesn't say there were any. Scripture does say this:
“14 And David behaved himself wisely
in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. 15 Wherefore when Saul
saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.” - 1
Samuel 18:14-15 KJV
Saul had a right to be fearful,
especially since scripture only shows us that this murderous attempt
on David, was only known by David and Saul (Well God and Satan too).
But wisely David didn't just go run and tell that, just handled business (running and telling that, don't apply in ALL cases y'all! Pray for wisdom! I know what I'm talking about ^_^). Because most of the outside
people didn't know about evil Saul turning on David. Neither did
Saul's own son Jonathan who thought everything was fantastic. Think
about it, David married Jonathan's sister Michal (even though Saul
was trying to get David killed in that “exciting” event that
failed. #JustSaying O_O). So umm yeah it was hard to come to grips
with this for Jonathan.
Why? Because Jonathan was Saul's son.
Do you realize how hard it is to realize the person that raised you,
taught you about God and honor, and all that good stuff has behind
closed doors turned evil and away from God? Not only that, but
turning on your best friend and now your Brother-In-Law for no
reason? Mentally that's really difficult to wrestle with, talk about
internal conflict. Didn't matter to Evil Saul here when he just got
frank with Jonathan and ALL his servants that the mission was 'kill
David'. Says so right here:
“1 And Saul spake to Jonathan his
son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
2 But Jonathan Saul's son delighted
much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father
seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to
thyself until the morning and abide in a secret place, and hide
thyself:” - 1 Samuel 19:1-2 KJV
See, Jonathan was finally realizing
okay Saul's got some serious problems and his servants are listening
to him. But Jonathan still wants to believe that there is some hope
to try and stop this attack of an innocent awesome non-faking person,
like David! Fast forward a bit more though, and it becomes clear Saul
is evil and wants David killed. Whatever it takes. Just don't let the
people outside know..... Well once Michal and Jonathan saw what was
REALLY going down, they took a stand because obviously they REALLY
feared God and loved David. And come on, once it's seen that God is
taking a stand for David a couple of times, that should be enough to
get a message through to non-completely evil people! But maybe that's
just me. #LOL
Good thing David stayed as close to God
as he could. Because stuff got real! And David felt the heat. And
Jonathan realized that the LORD was on the side of David, and he
wasn't sure how things were going to play out. That was a really
humble realization for Jonathan to reach. But then follow it up with
action. Jonathan was willing to make a covenant with the house of
David before God concerning their future households and how he would
handle the current situation. Talk about perception and sensitivity
to the situation, to God, and a friend in danger. Epic. A true
friend. It's right here:
12 And Jonathan said unto David, O Lord God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;
13 The Lord do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the Lord, that I die not:
15 But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the Lord even require it at the hand of David's enemies.
17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
18 Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.” - 1 Samuel 20:11-18 KJV
That passage, though long, is so powerful. Because Jonathan makes it real that he knows the LORD is with David no matter what his father does. I do wonder about Jonathan's mom sometimes.... but anyway! #heh A key verse for me though was:
“15 But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.” - 1 Samuel 20:15 KJV
Jonathan knew that David's enemies would be taken down. And he didn't want his house to be on the receiving end of such judgment. Jonathan was truly rare and remarkable to have that much insight and wisdom in such an awful situation, and take a stand anyway. To me this friendship was a foreshadowing of the everlasting friendship that would ultimately come through the line of David. A foreshadowing of the pure love and friendship that can only be obtained through Jesus today.
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:13 KJV
Jesus took things even further than
Jonathan could, He gave His life for all of humanity in the face of
much of humanity crying for Him to be killed. Not caring about their
heads or their future households! Specifically their CHILDREN....
Well then.... At least David got to
experience a pure friendship with someone like Jonathan standing up
to protect him and see him have enough wisdom to NOT want anything
bad to happen to his future household! #LOL I tell yeah, supernatural
darkness pretending to be light.....it's real! Keeps me praying. ^_^
Because scripture gives us what we need to make it through this crazy
world and back to our creator, Jesus. He left on record a bunch of
craziness in scripture to let us know, the world is crazy, yes. There
can be moments of less-craziness, and we should try to do the best we
can to be a light in this dark world while we are here. But this is
not our home. We have to get in the Acts 2:38 KJV salvational process
to get back to our real home. Which states:
“38 Then
Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive
the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
